Are My Prayers for Creation too General?

In worship at our church, The Table, several weeks ago, as we entered into a time of prayer, I prayed a prayer for creation. It was a "good" prayer, but I was struck by how general it was. Don't get me wrong, global prayers are needed. But I wondered what it would be like to pray more specifically for the creatures and the challenges of our planet. As a result, I began work on Eathers Lament

Fast forward to today. Tomorrow marks the start of COP30 (30th Conference of the Parties), the UN's global conference on climate change commitments and action. Here's a short video that gives a quick overview of COP30: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rhNvvDcIA2k

So, in the spirit of being more concrete and specific in our prayers for our planet's future, I've put together a 14-day Prayer Guide for Creation and Biodiversity you can use as COP30 is in session. I hope this guide is a meaningful way for you to participate in what I believe is the most important gathering on the planet over the next two weeks.

You can access both the web version and a print version here: www.fallcreekabbey.org/resources/eartherslament/14dayprayerguideforcreationandbiodiversity

Also, please join the Facebook group Earthers Lament. This group will serve as a platform for us to share our prayers, reflections, and support for each other during these 14 days. I plan to post a daily prompt in the group to guide our reflections.

Thank you for joining us as we seek, in hope, to join with all creation as it groans for relief and restoration. Your participation in this initiative is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to praying and discussing with you over the next two weeks.
