Environmental Justice is Social Justice

EARTHERS LAMENT
Welcome to Earthers Lament: An online resource for those who desire to hold our shared home and its most vulnerable, non-human kinfolk in our hearts and in prayers. Here you will find information regarding specific at-risk creatures, local and regional environmental hotspots, along with individuals and organizations that can be assisted by our collective expressions of care, concern, and prayer.
In The Greenling, an eco-fiction novel set in 2060, the main character, Noah, guides her peers in a ritual that honors and laments those non-human kinfolk most at risk of disappearing. The name she gives the event is Earthers Lament (link will take you to an excerpt of the book) One of the tragic and stark realities she comes to understand is that "Extinction is Forever."

"We must now not only fight
for nature but alongside."
For those of us concerned about Earth's future and its current crises, we are painfully aware that the challenges are far beyond the capacity of any one person, organization, or nation to solve. That’s not to say we don't all need to discern and do our part. We need the engagement and activism of us all at every level, from scientists to policy makers, from business leaders to frontline movements, and from manufacturers to consumers.
However, the systemic political, economic, and cultural issues are far greater than all of the individual solutions we necessarily must pursue. So, in addition to our personal, professional, and corporate activism, we are calling upon one another to pray and send our hope-filled intentions into the current planetary milieu.
Whatever your spiritual or philosophical tradition, we invite you to join with others in offering expressions of gratitude, lament, care, and protection for specific creatures, locations, and ecological tipping points. May we all discern how to live, as the Iroquois' principle states, with deliberation to the seventh generation—not only of our human sisters and brothers—but equally for the future of our non-human kinfolk.
